From the 20th to the 27th of August, the HC Andersen Festivals will be held in Odense. Portugal will be represented in two of its events.


Águas Livres Aqueduct

August 22-26, 10:00-16:00, Free admission

Danish writer and poet H. C. Anderson visited Portugal in 1866. In one of his travels, he drew the Águas Livres Aqueduct in Lisbon, Portugal. In this festival, you will have the opportunity to explore the history of the aqueduct and to get to know the letter written by the author on his trip. You can also see the results of a challenge placed on Portuguese 6th-grade and 9th-grade students. They drew and described the construction work of the aqueduct in accordance with the letter dated 1866.

The Mystery of Sintra Road

What was it like, the 19th century Portugal that H. C. Andersen visited? Get to know it with the film "The Mystery of Sintra Road", by Jorge Paixão da Costa. The Portuguese director was inspired by the novel of the same name written by Eça de Queirós and Ramalho Ortigão. He will be present at the Festival, so you'll have the opportunity to ask him questions.

Portuguese snacks and Port Wine will be served.
